Our Story
Niranjan Madhyamik Shiksha Samiti (NMSS) is a community-focused organisation committed to creating meaningful and sustainable opportunities for individuals and communities. Our journey has been shaped by a simple belief: when people have access to knowledge, skills, resources and opportunities, they can transform their own lives and contribute to the development of their communities.
Over the years, we have worked across diverse areas of social development, with a strong focus on skill development, employment, livelihoods, agriculture, natural farming, women empowerment, education, health awareness, sanitation and rural development. Since 1982, we have been working across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra to create sustainable socio-economic opportunities for rural youth, women, and vulnerable communities.
Our Journey
Our work began with a strong commitment to serving communities and addressing the challenges faced by people at the grassroots level. As our experience grew, so did the scope of our interventions.
Through government-supported skill development programmes such as DDU-GKY, PMKVY and UPSDM, we have worked with young people to provide access to vocational training, career counselling, certification and employment opportunities. Our focus has always extended beyond training — towards helping individuals build confidence, become employable and move towards sustainable livelihoods.
Our experience in agriculture has further strengthened our commitment to rural communities. We promote sustainable agricultural practices, farmer capacity building and livelihood enhancement while encouraging community-led approaches to rural development.
We also recognise the important role of women in creating stronger families and communities. Through Self-Help Groups, capacity building, livelihood promotion and market linkage initiatives, we work towards strengthening women's participation in economic and community development.
Alongside these programmes, our community initiatives have addressed important areas such as health awareness, cancer awareness, HIV/AIDS awareness, sanitation and hygiene.

For us, development is not simply about implementing a project. It is about creating a pathway for lasting change. We follow a people-centric approach that lets us work closely with communities, understand their needs, and develop interventions that are practical, inclusive and outcome-oriented.
Our History
Niranjan Madhyamik Shiksha Samiti was established as a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) in Madhya Pradesh with the primary objective of promoting education, skill development, and livelihood opportunities for underserved communities, particularly in rural areas.
The organization initially focused on educational support and community development activities, aiming to improve access to secondary education and create awareness about the importance of literacy and self-reliance among marginalized populations.
Over time, recognizing the growing need for employment-oriented skills, the organization expanded its scope to include vocational training and capacity-building programs. A significant milestone in its journey was its association with government-led skill development initiatives such as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). Under this program, the Samiti became a Project Implementing Agency (PIA) and started providing structured skill training to rural youth.
In 2018, the organization formalized its engagement with large-scale skill development projects through approved government partnerships, marking a transition from a small-scale educational society to a recognized training and livelihood promotion institution.
